The music is composed by Harris Jayaraj and cinematography is handled by Ramji. The final cut of Selvaraghavan’s ‘Irandam Ulagam’ is almost done. Director Selvaraghavan has announced the news on his micro-blogging account. ‘Irandam Ulagam’ is one of the most anticipated films
Development
In October 2006, the film was reported to be in planning with Karthi, whose first film was yet to release at the time, and Sandhya being signed on.[5] The film titled Idhu Maalai Nerathu Mayakkam consequently began its shoot in November 2006 and was produced by R. Ravindran and White Elephants, Selvaraghavan's new production house in collaboration with cinematographer Arvind Krishna and music composer Yuvan Shankar Raja.[6] Furthermore noted theatre actor, Y. Gee. Mahendra was signed on to play the role of a modern-age father in the film.[7] However after a brief filming schedule, the film failed to progress and Selvaraghavan, Ravindran and Karthi moved to make another film, Aayirathil Oruvan, in place of it. During the period, the production house White Elephant also collapsed, after Selvaraghavan fell out with both his partners.[8]
The film was relaunched on 7 November 2008 and filming started with a new cast of Dhanush and Andrea Jeremiah in the leading roles. Following his split with his original technical team, Ramji and G. V. Prakash Kumar had taken over the responsibilities of being the cinematographer and music director respectively.[9] The film was described to be a quick project with Selvaraghavan and Dhanush's sister, Vimalageetha taking up the production reins.[10] However, filming was stalled for unknown reasons as Selvaraghavan continued with the same team with Aayirathil Oruvan. After a period of little activity the film was announced as shelved in June 2009 due to Selvaraghavan's other commitments.[11]
In August 2009, the film was launched again for the third time with a first schedule planned in Hyderabad and intentions of completing the film within fifty days for a February 2010 release.[12][13] Selvaraghavan and Prakash Kumar went to Amsterdam later that month to compose six songs for the film.[14] However the film was yet again abandoned in October 2009 as Selvaraghavan left to complete Aayirathil Oruvan and begin another film with Vikram and Swati Reddy, which also failed to progress after its first schedule.[15]
The film began shoots for the fourth time on 27 June 2010 with the same cast, but a changed title of Maravan. Filming was held with the lead pair at Jeppiaar Engineering College in Chennai as the film began to progress quickly.[16] The crew revealed that a difficult ten-day schedule was completed in September 2010, with the team only sleeping four hours per night to complete it.[17] The title later was changed to Irandaam Ulagam and in a turn of events, Yuvan Shankar Raja replaced Prakash Kumar as music composer in the film, with the latter reporting it was due to "money and time issues".[18][19] In January 2011, the director revealed that "70 per cent" of the film was over and later that month, the rights of the film were purchased by UTV Motion Pictures.[20][21] However, in a sensational turn, Prakash Kumar was assigned again as composer after Yuvan Shankar Raja moved out of the project as he was busy with other commitments and could not give priority to Selvaraghavan, who was in rush to complete the film and move over to his next project, Vishwaroopam.[22]
The film ran into trouble yet again after lead actress Andrea Jeremiah pulled out of the film, citing differences with the director and consequently Selvarghavan moved on to do a film titled Mayakkam Enna featuring Dhanush and Richa Gangopadhyay, who had initially been signed to do another film with the director.[23] Initially reports suggested that Richa had replaced Andrea but reports that both projects were the same proved to be untrue.[24][25] Music composer Harris Jayaraj posted on Twitter in May 2011 that he had signed to compose in a Telugu film of the same script to be directed Selvaraghavan featuring Allu Arjun and Shruti Haasan in the lead roles.[26]
Since films in other languages are typically dubbed in Telugu, Selvaraghavan, in September 2011, had opted to make the film in Tamil instead, and release a dubbed version in Telugu. He had roped in Arya and Anushka Shetty to play the lead roles in the film and he hoped to restart the shoot of the film in October 2011.[27][28] Meanwhile, Harris Jayaraj was confirmed to be a part of the project as the music director, again replacing Prakash Kumar.

The film shooting had take off on 24 December 2011, in Ramoji Film City, Hyderabad.[31][32] The next schedule is currently being filmed in Goa, inside the BITS-Pilani, Goa Campus, following which the team will shoot few scenes in Rio de Janeiro and the forests of Brazil.[33][34] It is reported that Arya and Anushka will play double roles.[35] Selvaraghavan reported that the film will have CG scenes.[36] Some portions were shot in Hyderabad.[37] The team returned from Georgia after almost two months of continuous shoot under extreme conditions.[38] The unit after shooting at Ramoji Film City will be moving to the holy town of Srisailam situated in Nallamala Hills of Kurnool district. Some very important scenes crucial for the story will be shot in this last and final schedule
Irandaam Ulagam marks Jayaraj's first collaboration with director Selvaraghavan. For composing seven songs he teamed up with poet Vairamuthu for the Tamil and Chandrabose for the Telugu version of the soundtracks, respectively. The songs feature breezy romantic and situation based tracks as per the film's central theme.[40][41] The song En Kaadhal Thee sung by S. P. Balasubramaniam was recorded in late October 2012.[42] A single track sung by Dhanush, "Pazhangkalla" was released on 2 August, aired on Suryan F.M. The full album was released on 4 August,[43] and received overwhelming positive reviews from critics[44][45] [46]The album was mastered and made available for iTunes on 13 August.[47] A week after its release, the soundtrack topped the iTunes India charts by claiming the No.1 spot.
Trailer Release
Irandam Ulagam is already setting out records with its trailer which has gone viral since it was put up on YouTube. It has reached 1,063,826 views since it was posted on August 4.
The trailer was released along with its audio on Sunday August 4 at Sathyam Cinemas; the movie is expected to be screened in September.
Trailer at a glance The trailer opens up pompously with a title “A Selvaraghavan Film” and also has captive phrases which tries to convey the story in brief. The trailer is full of Arya, Anushka and an unknown exotic planet which has several planets very much close to it that they are visible for naked eye. The trailer portrays Arya and Anushka Shetty in two different roles. One as a commonaire busy with mundane life while the other as a part of tribe in Irandam Ulagam (Second World) fighting, struggling for something. Probably a cause which we will have to wait to find out.
With the caption “How far will you travel for love?” the trailer sheds light on the duo where their love story is spanned across worlds. They fight not only men wearing hoods (the same one you see Lord Voldemort wearing in Harry Potter), but also dragons of some sort which are thrice as big as humans. It looks as though it’s a lion, however it’s got a pair of wings. It’s not just Arya fighting the evil, Anushka too. She’s got quite some moves on YouTube.
From the makers of Ayirathil Oruvan
It has semblance to few visual graphics from Ayirathil Oruvan. Also it kind of reminds you of James Cameroon’s Avatar – the blue people. Actor Dhanush has crooned for a song and showered praises for his brother, he tweeted “Wow just saw Irandaam Ulagam trailer.proud of u my bro.the extent u go 2 achieve what u believe in an inspiration”.
With the trailer on fire, it’s already in the limelight. The viewers just will have to wait for the movie to be released which is yet to be announced by the crew.
